Standard browser configurations for testing
The default Internet options settings for Internet Explorer 5.50 SP2 are shown here. Settings for the other browsers in which we should test (detailed in 'Testing web systems') will be added. Testing must be carried out with the browser configured as per the setting shown, and then also with 'scripting/active scripting/disabled' set (e.g. JavaScript disabled).
These are default settings and can be set up quickly by clicking on the 'default level' and 'restore defaults' in the security and advanced setting tabs respectively:

Ensure that the following settings are selected:
For ActiveX controls and plug-ins:
- Download signed ActiveX controls - Prompt
- Download unsigned ActiveX controls - Disable
- Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe - Disable
- Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins - Enable
- Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting - Enable.
For Cookies:
- Allow cookies that are stored on your computer - Enable.
- Allow per-session cookies (not stored) - Enable.
For Miscellaneous:
- Access data sources across domains - Disable
- Don’t prompt for client certificate selection when no certificates or only one certificate exists - Disable
- Drag and drop or copy and paste files - Enable
- Installation of desktop items - Prompt
- Launching programs and files in an IFRAME - Prompt
- Navigate sub-frames across different domains - Enable
- Software channel permissions - Medium safety
- Submit nonencrypted form data - Prompt
- Userdata persistence - Enable.
For Scripting:
- Active scripting - Enable
- Allow paste operations via script - Enable
- Scripting of Java applets - Enable.
For Multimedia:
- Play animations
- Play sounds
- Play videos
- Show pictures
- Smart image dithering
- For Search from the Address bar:
- When searching - select Display results, and go to the most likely site.
