This includes the prioritisation of planned maintenance programmes and resurfacing schemes, undertaking scrim skid resistance testing and determining the most appropriate form of treatment.
Policies and specifications are developed to address climate change by reducing the environmental impact on the highway network such as using recycled materials and innovative products. Strategies are introduced to improve safety and limit the authority's exposure to liability.

Geotechnical
Provides specialist geotechnical advice and carries out ground investigations for the design of foundations for roads, bridges, schools and different structures. Manages and approves geotechnical and contaminated land investigations, assists in the reclamation of derelict land and develops original designs. Also manages the quality and performance of all construction materials including innovative and recycled products.
Highway Information
Collection and maintenance of all highway inventory information. This data is essential nationally and is a statutory requirement. At a local level it provides highway safety inspection information, input to the asset management plan, highway maintenance policies, corporate mapping systems and other initiatives.
