BI - Business intelligence

CACI - Consumer statistics website

CCG - Clinical commissioning group

DCLG - Department for Communities and Local Government

DECC - Department of Energy & Climate Change

DPH - Director of Public Health

DSR - Directly age standardised rate

GP - General practice

GVA - Gross value added. An indicator of economic output and income generation, measuring the contribution to the economy of each producer, industry or sector and is generally regarded as the best measure of the sum of economic activity within an area.

HPSSA - House price statistics for small areas

ICD - International classification of diseases

IMD - Index of multiple deprivation. The indices measures seven different aspects (or domains) of deprivation for lower level super output areas across England. Six district level summary measures are also produced.

JSNA - Joint Strategic Needs Assessment. A systematic method for reviewing the health and wellbeing needs of a population, leading to agreed commissioning priorities that will improve the health and wellbeing outcomes and reduce inequalities.

KPI - Key performance indicator

KS2 - Key stage 2. The legal term for the four years of schooling in maintained schools in England and Wales normally known as Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6, when pupils are aged between 7 and 11.

KS4 - Key stage 4. The legal term for the two years of school education which incorporate GCSEs, and other exams, in maintained schools in England, Wales and Northern Ireland - normally known as Year 10 and 11 in England and Wales, and Year 11 and Year 12 in Northern Ireland, when pupils are aged between 14 and 16.

KSI - Killed or seriously injured

Lancashire-12 - geographical area covering the 12 county districts of Lancashire: Burnley, Chorley, Fylde, Hyndburn, Lancaster, Pendle, Preston, Ribble Valley, Rossendale, South Ribble, West Lancashire and Wyre.

Lancashire-14 - geographic are covering the 12 county districts of Lancashire (see "Lancashire-12") plus the two Lancashire unitary authorities of Blackburn with Darwen and Blackpool.

LBW - low birth weight. A birth weight of a liveborn infant of less than 2,500 g (5 pounds, 8 ounces) regardless of gestational age.

LCC - Lancashire County Council

LIHC - Low income, high costs

LSOA - Lower layer super output area. A geographical unit introduced with the 2001 Census of Population, each covering between 1,000-3,000 people and between 400 and 1,200 households. In 2010, there were 32.482 LSOAs in England, of which 940 were in Lancashire-14.

MASH - Multi agency safeguarding hub

MSOA - Middle layer super output area. A Census geographical area containing between 5,000 and 15,000 people and between 2,000 and 6,000 households.

MYE - Mid-year estimate (of population)

NCMP - National child measurement programme

NEET - Not in education, employment or training

NHS - National Health Service

NOMIS - National online manpower information system (labour market statistics website run by the University of Durham on behalf of the Office for National Statistics)

NUTS-3 - Upper-tier local authority area

ONS - Office for National Statistics

PHE - Public Health England

PHOF - Public health outcomes framework

Pop - population

QOF - Quality and outcomes framework

RAG - Red, amber, green. A system for rating data, where red is usually worse than a comparator or worst than expected, amber is broadly similar or as expected, and green is better than a comparator or better than expected.

SPA - service planning area

Statistical significance - the likelihood that a result or relationship is caused by something other than mere random chance. For a more detailed information please see this guide.
