Action

Reuse and recycle paper; cardboard, glass, plastics, aluminium and steel

The Bowland Visitor Centre has a recycling centre now installed

Ecological Water Treatment

We have a reed bed system in place

Promotion of staff travel car share

LCC does promote car share "Shared Wheels", however due to the home locations of staff and the different working hours (staggered shifts) car sharing is not practical.

Car Free Activites and Cycle Hire

The Bowland Visitor Centre promotes car free activities, walking, cycling, horse riding as well as promotes cycle hire in the area.

Dolphin Friendly Tuna

Tuna purchased is Brakes own brand which is dolphin friendly.

Business Stationary and Marketing Materials

All office paper is 100% recycled, as are the leaflets that we produce.

Visitor Feedback – include green questions in visitor feedback forms

We currently ask our visitors on their method of transportation to the Bowland Visitor Centre.  In the financial year 2007/2008 of those surveyed 99% attended via car/van with 1% attending via bus/coach.

We have widened the survey net and survey specific users – conferences and events as well as general visitors to enable us to analyse the transportation choices of multi-users.

Use of GTBS brand in on and off site promotion

The awaiting grading logo is used both on-site communication – green policy as well as on the website.

Support Local Social Community Projects

The Environment Room has always been a display area for the community we have had displays from local Womens Institute, Local Walking Group.  Currently there is a display from the Local Amateur Dramatics Group The Whitechapel Players.

Become Members of the Forest of Bowland Sustainable Tourism Network

We have applied to become a member.

Request specialist Environmental advice

We have arranged for Groundwork to attend to undertake a survey and advise

Low Energy Lighting

We are discussing the lighting options available with our Property Group with a view to introducing low energey light bulbs

Install Lighting Controls and sensors

Due to the constant traffic entering and exiting the Environment Room this would be impractical.  All lights are turned off in rooms not in use.

Record Boiler Maintenance and Boiler Efficiency

We do not have a Boiler.

Install Water Butts

We have no use for water butts on site – nothing on the Fell is "watered"

Use Phosphate free soaps and detergents; chlorine-free cleaners; natural based surface cleaners; recycled content plastics, bin lingers

All products used as assessed by County Analysts and COSHH assessed.  The Bowland Visitor Centre is tied into Lancashire County Council Corporate Contracts and materials used are purchased by Evans (Environmental Policy is located in Management File).  Bin bags are biodegradable.

Green Energy Tariff

We are not on a green energy tariff.  We are tied into a corporate contract and we have no control over energy tariffs

Garden Waste, composting and peat free

We do not have a garden, we have very little material that can be composted and we have no end use for compost.

Hazardous Waste Disposal

No hazardous waste is produced at the Bowland Visitor Centre
