Green Tourism

Lancashire County Council Countryside Service

Bowland Visitor Centre, Beacon Fell

Our green policy is to constantly look for ways in which we can improve our green credentials; we are achieving this by the formation of a green steering group to explore ways to achieve our statement promises and to link with other like-minded organisations.  As our visitor and critical friend we welcome your input; if you have any "green" comments or suggestions please complete a suggestion form at the information desk. Thank you.

Our Green strategy is aligned with Lancashire County Council Environment policy.

At the Bowland Visitor Centre we will focus on:

·        Recyclng

·        Considering environmental impacts in our purchasing

·        Encourage staff and visitors to access information via the Internet and to think before they print.

·        Monitor our energy consumption and review ways in which to reduce this.

As our green culture becomes established and embedded, we aim to:

·        Utilise energies and water sparingly

·        Reuse or recycle

·        Minimise our use of paper by processing information, correspondence electronically which is much more energy and carbon efficient.

·        Recycle mobile phones and Ink Cartridges

·        Encourage staff and visitors to utlise the on-site recycling centre.

·        Where possible source local produce to reduce our food miles

·        Source merchandise which uses recycled materials.

·        Serve Fair Trade Hot Drinks in our café

·        Develop awareness displays within the centre on recycling and sustainable tourism.

·        Continue to actively work with schools, colleges and other agencies in encouraging all to participate in environmental projects and education.
